I phoned Colin today to verify meeting times, transport, etc.
He says the Duke of Ed. Training day is not happening due to people not communicating with him.
No one gave him a phone call or email or anything except very few people (i.e. Me.)...
I
told him I was contacting everyone to make sure the meeting and
training day would go ahead as planned. His reply was that he didn't
know I was doing this, nevertheless people should be committed to
coming to the regular meetings.
If you've signed up for DofE, then it's your responsibility to come to all the meetings. If for any reason you can't come, then it's just manners to send an email or call to Colin letting him know you're not coming.
The meetings are spread out with quite a gap between each meeting (~2 weeks). Therefore it's up to you to organise your time so that the day of the meeting is 'booked'. Nevertheless there's really no excuse for not contacting him with an apology other than pure laziness. If you're lazy then you really should not have applied in the first place.
Colin
says we'll reschedule everything again in September and he regrets
cancelling the training day this Sunday but he was left with no choice.
The
DofE award scheme is really all about determination. At it's most basic
level, it's the determination to come to the meetings or at least send
an apology.
