I phoned Colin today to verify meeting times, transport, etc.

He says the Duke of Ed. Training day is not happening due to people not communicating with him.

No one gave him a phone call or email or anything except very few people (i.e. Me.)...

I told him I was contacting everyone to make sure the meeting and training day would go ahead as planned. His reply was that he didn't know I was doing this, nevertheless people should be committed to coming to the regular meetings.

If you've signed up for DofE, then it's your responsibility to come to all the meetings. If for any reason you can't come, then it's just manners to send an email or call to Colin letting him know you're not coming.

The meetings are spread out with quite a gap between each meeting (~2 weeks). Therefore it's up to you to organise your time so that the day of the meeting is 'booked'. Nevertheless there's really no excuse for not contacting him with an apology other than pure laziness. If you're lazy then you really should not have applied in the first place.

Colin says we'll reschedule everything again in September and he regrets cancelling the training day this Sunday but he was left with no choice.

The DofE award scheme is really all about determination. At it's most basic level, it's the determination to come to the meetings or at least send an apology.

BCCYF contacted me saying the date is not suitable and they will meet us early September.

If you're confused about meeting dates, trips, activities and events, don't forget to check out the events calendar myni.org.uk/events where all events are listed properly.

 Belfast City Council

Salam,

There will be a meeting with another youth group called Belfast City Council Youth Forum (BCCYF) on Saturday 20 June 2009 (this saturday).

There will be around 5 people from BCCYF coming to the Belfast Islamic Centre on this saturday. Their ages are from 14-17. If you're interested and would like to come, then please do come... You don't really have to be strictly within this age range but you need to be comfortable in talking with them.

The meeting time is not yet confirmed, but it will be from around 5pm - 7pm. We'll pray Asr there isA.

Duke of EdDuke of Edinburg Awards - Seventh Meeting

If you are participating in the award scheme, it is important to take note of the following details:

Your Duke of Ed activity sheet

It is crucial you fill in your activity sheet. Check your email inbox. Colin sent everyone a copy (several copies).

Details of the next duke of ed training day

The next training day was in fact supposed to be a weekend, but due to lack of turn out, we changed it to just a day out. Nevertheless, you are required to attend this, if you do not, it is possible this can result in an entire cancellation of the whole project.

IT MUST BE POINTED OUT THAT COLIN IS DOING THIS VOLUNTARILY.

His job vacancy at DofE has ended, he is now serving us from his own kindness. You must show your respect by at least attending the meetings. Punctuality is one of the most important skills for the DofE award scheme

Free up this day in your diary or whatever way you organise your time:

The Youth Council for Northern Ireland have teamed up with the Belfast Islamic Centre to organise an 8-week programme for Muslim Youth in Northern Ireland.  Throughout the 8 weeks, the young people will take part in workshops of different natures e.g. art and drama, leadership exercises, residentials and cross cultural meetings.  A portfolio will be kept so that at the end of the programme, the young people will automatically qualify for a Junior OCN qualification in youth work.  The first introductory session will be on Friday 6th March at 7.30pm in the Belfast Islamic Centre.

The event is for people aged from 15-18. If you are near the age of 15 (but not quite 15), you can come along to the first meeting and find out what happens, although a certificate probably isn't gauranteed.
